I'm seeing some reports that 11.5 resolves the issue. I think this is happening when the lid is opened after the computer has been asleep.
I tried enabling "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" when on Power Adapter under Battery in System Preferences, but saw another Kernel panic shortly after. Kernel panic is showing AppleUSBCardReaderDriverNub but what's puzzling is that there is not an SD card inserted.
I'm trying to debug a friend's 2015 13" MBP running 11.4. Thanks for the reports on this thread! It's been reassuring that it isn't just me, if nothing else.
